Call straight away if

These are the situations where waiting makes things worse:

  • Water is flowing from a burst pipe, ceiling, wall or light fitting.
  • Sewage is backing up into the house or yard.
  • There's no water at all coming through the taps.
  • You can smell gas. Get everyone outside first.
  • A hot water system is leaking heavily or hissing loudly.

What can wait until morning

A dripping tap, a slow drain, or a running toilet is annoying but rarely urgent. We'll tell you honestly on the phone whether it needs a call-out right now. If it can wait, you can book a visit during the day or request a quote.

Who to call for what

Not every emergency is ours to fix. A main break or leak in the street is Sydney Water's, on 13 20 90. A gas smell outside your property is for the gas network, and a strong smell or any danger to people means 000. Anything on your side of the meter, from burst pipes to blocked sewers and failed hot water, is where we come in.

What happens after you call

A plumber answers and works out how urgent it is. While we're on our way, we'll guide you through shutting off the water or gas to limit the damage. When we arrive we make the situation safe first, find the actual cause, then explain your options and price before any repair work begins. We're upfront about after-hours rates before we start, and our emergency plumber costs guide explains what to expect.

What emergency plumbing typically costs

After-hours work costs more, and our guide is upfront about it:

  • A daytime call-out fee: roughly $80 to $150. After hours it often rises to $150 to $350.
  • After-hours labour: typically $150 to $250 an hour, against $90 to $180 in business hours.
  • A burst pipe repair at 3am: roughly $350 to $900, depending on access and pipe type.
  • An overflowing blocked toilet attended urgently at night: often around $250 to $500.
  • These are typical ranges from our own cost guides, not quotes. Access, the age of the pipework and the time of day all move the price, so we explain your options and the cost before any work starts. For the full breakdown, read what a 24 hour emergency plumber costs.
Straight answers

Questions
we get a lot.

How fast can you get here?

Emergencies jump the queue. We give you an honest arrival window on the phone and keep you updated.

Do you charge extra after hours?

We're upfront about any after-hours rates before we start, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

What should I do right now?

Call us. We'll walk you through shutting off the water or gas while a plumber is on the way.

What counts as a plumbing emergency?

Anything that's causing damage or isn't safe to leave: a burst pipe, a sewage overflow, no water at all, a gas smell, or a hot water system leaking heavily. A dripping tap or slow drain can usually wait for a booked visit.

Who do I call for a water main or gas leak in the street?

A leak in the street, or a main break, is Sydney Water's responsibility, and you can report it on 13 20 90. A gas smell is a gas emergency: leave the area and call 000 or your gas network. We can help with everything on your side of the meter.

What should I do while I wait for the plumber?

Turn off the water at the main, and the power or gas to a hot water system if it's involved. Keep clear of electrical points near water, and photograph the damage. We'll talk you through each step on the phone.

Will you really answer at 2am?

Yes. Our emergency line is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you speak to someone who can actually help.

Can emergency work be done properly, or is it just a patch?

We make it safe first, then repair the actual fault so it doesn't fail again next week. If follow-up work is needed, you'll get your options and pricing in writing.
